This is a
truly inspiring account of the power of international
volunteering
It gives a true account of the impact that can be made when one
individual decides to 'take the leap' and be of service to
vulnerable populations. English language skills continue to
be an asset that is highly valuable in many countries,
including Brazil. Don Morgan's dedication to providing
structured English language instruction really did make a
difference in the lives of community members. I'd recommend
this book to anyone wondering what one person can really
achieve in a world where communities face the complex and
challenging issues of poverty.

Never think your value in
life is over once you retire
Don Morgan's tours as a volunteer to community
organizations in Brazil highlight the deep need of
educational assistance in so many areas of the world. But
that's only half the story. The other side is the
educational value and adventurous experiences a senior
citizen can personally gain by becoming a volunteer.

A really inspiring book
Dons book makes you feel anything is possible. How great to see
people doing positive things. It's very readable and you can
hear the voice of the real author speaking to you through
the words about what he learnt and how energised he was by
his experience. Worth a read whether you're thinking of
volunteering or not!!

Don's experience just shows
what we can do when challenged.
This is a fascinating account of his time spent teaching in Brazil. So
worthwhile and perhaps he will have made a difference to
some of those young lives. I have so much admiration for all
that he achieved. He has also shown that age is no barrier
to volunteering.

Volunteering in Salvador is truly inspirational.
You have shared your wonderful experience which is humbling
and gives food for thought, for others, that will,
hopefully, do the same, to help these very worthy people.
Not once, but twice, and for no financial gain, with very
little help from donations, towards the cost. You gave up
your time to learn the language and prepared well in advance
for this obviously rewarding challenge. I know personally
and by reading the contents in, your book, that you have
made such great beneficial changes to so many young students
lives. Great photographs and so very interesting to learn
about your
experience and the
different culture.

An
enjoyable and at times very moving account of his volunteer
work
A very moving account of Don`s volunteer work in Salvador,
Brazil, with lots of local colour and details. The photos
are excellent -- professional quality -- and really add to
the book. While I'm not personally looking to volunteer in
Brazil or anywhere. . . I'm sure this would be a very
helpful and encouraging little book for anyone thinking
about volunteering overseas -- perhaps particularly someone
who's recently retired but still has a lot to give to the
world. It could also make a nice gift for a young person
embarking on a gap year or similar.
